24-03-2010   CHILDCARE ALLOWANCE
Did your child attend a crèche or childminder in 2009? If so, you may be eligible for a childcare allowance.

You need to meet the following criteria:

Your personal situation
  • You are a Dutch national, or you hold a valid residence permit, or you live in an EU country, in Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland.
  • You have one or more children living at home for whom you receive child support or a foster parent allowance. Are you ineligible for this kind of allowance or contribution? In this case, you have to contribute to the cost of maintenance. This is a minimum of €408 per quarter per child.
  • Your child attends a childcare organisation registered with the municipality. This may be a crèche, after-school care or childminder, or a childminder family affiliated to a childminder agency.
  • From 2010, your childminder needs to be registered. Ask about this at the childminder agency.
  • The child for whom you wish to apply for a childcare allowance is not yet in secondary education.
  • You, or your partner, pay the childcare fees.

Your work situation
  • You work (for an employer, are self-employed or employed by your partner’s company). Or:
  • You receive a contribution on the basis of the Childcare Act from the municipality or Employee Insurance Agency (UWV).

If you think you are eligible for the childcare allowance, you can apply for this until 1 April 2010. This also applies to the rent/care allowance.
Do you, or your partner, have a deferment for filing your income tax return for 2009? Then you can apply for an allowance over 2009 during the period of your, or your partner’s, deferment.
