30-06-2010   Netherlands has a competitive tax regime
The Netherlands has a reputation for being a high tax country.

KPMG’s recent research shows that for businesses this is far from the truth; The Netherlands ranks third as one of the cheapest countries to run a business in. KPMG’s research covers over 40 cities in 10 countries and includes income tax, capital tax, sales tax, property taxes, miscellaneous local business taxes, and statutory labour costs. The UK ranks 5th, the US ranks 6th.

Amsterdam ranks 7 in the cities list, behind 3 Canadian and 2 Mexican cities, and our friends in the Hague.

Europe in general, The Netherlands also, has relatively high statutory labour cost; they represent almost half of the total taxes in these countries (US less than 35%).

The reputation of high tax country the Netherlands has must have to do with the cosmetically not so favourable 52% income tax rate, or with the higher corporate income taxes in the past. Just so you know; it’s not only a nice place to live.
